Mary Filapek & Lou Ann Townsend

Our jewelry is about dreams. When we dissect our dreams we find that they are not ruled by gravity, but rather exist in a state of grace. We aspire to bring a sense of grace and anti-gravity to all of our work. We continue to explore the void in our dreams and in our work. The void can be found in the space between atoms or breaths – moments of complete pause that hold nothing and everything.

Our design sensibility is heavily influenced by a mid-century modern aesthetic. Crisp, strong lines, clean color and a relationship to the universe and its machinations, infused throughout with a sense of joy and hope.
The creation of our work always begins with the metal. Whether sterling silver, gold or bronze, utilizing both fabrication and casting methods for manipulation, the foundation of every piece is built in metal. After the metal work is complete, the work is further flushed out with color from polymer clay or semi-precious stones.
Mary + Lou Ann met at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque where they were both studying metal arts. They currently live in North Carolina and have been collaborating for over 15 years.
